The Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005

If you don’t think you need to concern yourself with the regular testing and maintenance of your fire equipment and emergency lighting then think again. The Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 states: “where necessary in order to safeguard the safety of relevant persons the responsible person must ensure that the premises and any facilities, equipment and devices provided in respect of the premises under this order are subject to a suitable system of maintenance and are maintained in an efficient state, in efficient working order and in good repair.”

The order therefore places the onus onto the Responsible Person to conduct a risk assessment to determine adequate and reasonable safety precautions specific to their premises. If you need help with a general risk assessment or a fire risk assessment have a look at our ‘Fire Risk Assessments’ page.
